180 MINUTES

After three outstanding 180 minutes nights with Mathew Jonson, .VRIL and Out of Place Artefactsin 2022 we are now looking much forward to the fourth edition happening on Thursday, August 24. The concept is simple but groundbreaking. With an early entry at 7 pm, the first hour is dedicated to a thriving artist who will warm-up for the headliners. The main act then plays live for 180 minutes, followed by a cool down set by the support act.

MULTIPLES (HARDWARE LIVE) is a live collaboration of two techno heavyweights: Surgeon, who has been at the forefront of UK techno since 1994, and „Rotterdamian“ Speedy J who helped define techno alongside Laurent Garnier, Aphex Twin, and Richie Hawtin since 1991.
What can we expect from those two legendary DJs and producers sharing one stage? „No creative limitations, just pure live improvisation!“ as the artists say.

PHILIPPA PACHO is playing the warm-up and cool-down set this time. Born and raised in Sweden and now Berlin-based, Philippa landed a residency at Stockholm-based club Under Iron back in 2012 and has developed into a compelling DJ since, blending several strains of techno that spark a range of emotions and energies on the dance floor.

KLUBNACHT: OPTIMO (espacio)

Headlining our second Zenner KLUBNACHT will be Optimo – the DJ duo J.D. Twitch and J.G. Wilkes. The Glasgow-based DJ producers ran a party of the same name at Glasgow's Sub Club, a legendary night where anything and everything was on the table music-wise. The duo brought their Sunday night residency to a close in 2010 and have each gotten involved in new production projects since. Afriqua (AKA Adam Longman Parker) crafts his mercurial productions with an eye to the future and an ear to the past. At a young age, he straddled the seemingly disparate worlds of classical music and hip-hop, studying piano works while developing his skills as a producer and DJ. LNS is a DJ and producer from Vancouver, Canada, and a Resident at Berlin's Tresor and releases on Tresor, Wania, and her imprint LNS. Longhair plays a Disco with a psytrance touch – we are looking forward to the return of these Zenner regulars to our main hall. Last but not least, we have Tel-Aviv-born, Amsterdam-based Dweedo (AKA David Joseph), who is on a mission to share weird and wonderful electronic music behind the decks.

As a former architect, Kangding Ray’s multidisciplinary approach allows him to apply his craft in diverse fields such as visual arts, film scores, audiovisual installations, and dance performances. The warm-up and the cool-down set will come from Rachel Lyn – a multidisciplinary artist of sonic excavations and empirical aurality. CHAI + Hemlocke Springs (Pitchfork Festival)

CHAI draw R&B and hip-hop into their mix (Mac Miller, the Internet, and Brockhampton were on their minds) of dance-punk and pop-rock, all always remaining undeniably CHAI. Since breaking out in 2018, the band from Japan has been associated with explosive joy. At their live shows, the four-piece of identical twins MANA (lead vocals and keys) and KANA (guitar), drummer YUNA, and bassist-lyricist YUUKI have become known for buoyant displays of eclectic and clever songwriting, impressive musicianship, matching outfits, delightful choreography, and sheer relief. Their third full-length album and first for Sub Pop, WINK contains CHAI’s mellowest and most minimal music, and their most affecting and exciting songwriting by far. While the band leaned into a more personal sound, WINK is also the first CHAI album to feature contributions from outside producers (Mndsgn, YMCK) and a feature from the Chicago rapper-singer Ric Wilson.

HEMLOCKE SPRINGS Peculiar, personable, and profound as can be, 24-year-old pop act Hemlocke Springs (real name Isememe Udu) embodies only the most wonderful parts of modern pop stardom. This 2022 breakout star had a meteoric rise in 2022 with back-to-back TikTok smash singles in „Gimmie all ur luv“ and „Girlfriend“. With a golden voice that rivals the 80s leads she’s so often compared to and gorgeous soundscapes spread throughout her increasingly diverse catalog, this art-pop darling has only the brightest future ahead for her.

Flavien Berger + Ghostly Kisses (Pitchfork Festival)

On March 17th 2023 FLAVIEN BERGER released his new album “Dans cent ans”, where he Flavien evokes the mystery of the gaze and its evocative power. Can a look change a life? Sometimes it can eclipse the world.

GHOSTLY KISSES Music has always been around Margaux Sauvé, born in Quebec to a family of musicians; she picked up the violin at the tender age of five. Moving on to the Conservatoire in Quebec, she quit due to “missing the fun part of it” but still loved music and started to play violin in local bands. Singing came a bit later as she thought that “to be a singer you had to have a powerful voice and be loud”, something that doesn’t come naturally to her as a quiet, thoughtful person. Writing music as Ghostly Kisses arrived at a moment, where Margaux was in “a living situation I was not able to get out of. A toxic relationship where I had a hard time understanding what was happening.” With this knowledge, it is understandable that most of her early music has a sorrowful but exploratory mood, knowing there were things she needed to express but not understanding quite how instinctively she was writing until years later. ‘Heaven, Wait’, her mesmeric dream-pop debut album, was released in 2022. Able to view herself with an external eye, the album reflects transitions and rebirth – still talking about difficult situations, but with the ability to cast someone else in the lead role, giving the music a deeply personal yet starkly universal appeal.

Fazerdaze + Water From Your Eyes (Pitchfork Festival)

Life is horribly dark right now. And yet, it is not unfunny. That’s the sentiment that animates WATER FROM YOUR EYES on their new album, and first for Matador, Everyone’s Crushed. On the follow-up to the Brooklyn duo’s 2021 breakthrough, Structure, Rachel Brown (they/them) and Nate Amos (he/him) find silliness and fatalism dancing in a frantic lockstep, using heart palpitating rhythms and absurdist, deadpan lyrics to convey stories of personal and societal unease. The duo started making music together in 2016 while living in Chicago, after Amos played Brown some New Order and they decided they wanted to start a “sad dance band.” Both musicians in their own right, and a couple at the time, they made their self-titled debut EP in a week. Over the next few years, Water From Your Eyes’ music drifted toward rangier and less conventional sounds, incorporating serene industrial polyrhythms, ambient drone music, and contemporary composition. FAZERDAZE In a society where being strong and resilient is often held up like a badge of honour, it’s much, much harder to acknowledge when enough is enough – to accept when it’s time to let go. It’s a truth that New Zealand songwriter and producer Amelia Murray has spent years wrangling with, but one whose story thankfully comes with an empowering punchline of personal reclamation in the form of ‘Break!’: her returning EP as Fazerdaze.

MIKE + Armand Hammer (Pitchfork Festival)

At twenty-four years old, MIKE’s age can be deceiving. He is an integral figure in birthing a new sound and style of hip hop that has gained wide influence since it first broke in underground circles in 2017, and MIKE’s music itself carries the insight, pain, and fatigue that often comes with age and long life lived. In December 2022 MIKE released his latest album “Beware of the Monkey”. As MIKE has grown older, and amassed a larger fanbase, the more pitfalls and tricks he has had to navigate: both within his personal life and the music industry. “Beware of the Monkey” is a warning that speaks to those experiences. The album features the intense introspection that is characteristic of a MIKE project, but also his most commanding and engaging production work to date.

Haram is a mercurial collaboration between incendiary rap duo ARMAND HAMMER, and living legend The Alchemist. For the first time ELUCID and billy woods have crafted an album with a single producer and the result is extraordinary. With their unmatched penchant for stirring imagery and incisive storytelling, the two rappers dive into an ocean of Alchemist’s creation: warmly inviting on the surface, black and bonecrushingly cold at depth. Haram is a collection of the profane and the pure; a reminder that that which is forbidden is also sacrosanct.

Erland Cooper, support: Meredi

Prolific Scottish composer, interdisciplinary artist, and nature's songwriter Erland Cooper who merges electronic and classic music with evocative storytelling and conceptual art, tours his ambitious fourth studio album and stops at Zenner on November 7. ‚Folded Landscape' (released in May on Mercury KX/Decca) sees Cooper work through the lens of observations surrounding climate change creating a potent, experimental new work. Using drastic temperature changes from sub-zero to hottest on record, he developed this piece for chamber string ensemble, piano, voice, harpsichord, electronics & field recordings. The album figuratively and thaws over 7-movements and features UK Poet Laureate Simon Armitage along with other special guests and samples, including activist Greta Thunberg, visual artist Norman Ackroyd and multi-award winning author, naturalist, and conservationist Dara McNaulty.

Yeule

Nat Ćmiel (they/them) were born in Singapore, live in London and are musically active under the name yeule. In 2022, the album "Glitch Princess" was released and placed yeule somewhere between shoegaze melancholy and a kind of slo-mo version of hyperpop. The always knowledgeable critics of THE FADER called the record "a challenging work that doesn't shy away from bold pop moments" and Pitchfork named "Glitch Princess" one of the most important albums of the year.

But yeule don't just operate with musical means which is especially noticeable at their concerts. Their songs are accompanied by exciting visuals, charged with new meaning, amplified and sometimes shot to pieces. In May, they released a new single that shows yeule on new paths. The shoegaze influence becomes more obvious on yeule, the glitch sounds move into the background. They themselves said: "'sulky baby' was like an alternative rock shoegaze hybrid from the 2000s with a touch of sad satire.

I felt like I was talking to a younger version of myself, stopping her from crying and looking back at the way I betrayed and neglected that innocence of myself." yeule also revealed to Pitchfork magazine that a new album is in the making, to be released on Ninja Tune. It will sound like "emo for cyborgs" and "sweeter" than the albums before. In December, yeule will present their new songs live at an exclusive show at Zenner in Berlin.

Further intersecting the origins of Techno, Electro, Miami Bass and beyond to deliver you into the future. Fully charged. 180 minutes with Rrose

After five outstanding 180 minutes nights with .VRIL, Mathew Jonson, Out Of Place Artefacts, Multiples, and Dasha Rush & Kangding Ray, we are now embarking on the sixth edition on Thursday, March 21st.

The 180 minutes concept at Zenner is unique. With an early start at 7 pm, the first hour is reserved for an upcoming artist who will warm up for the headliner. The main act then plays live for 180 minutes, followed by a cool-down set by the support act. There are no artistic boundaries here.

For the 180-minute sound journey in March, we are happy to have Rrose playing at Zenner. We have been following their artistic and musical journey for quite a while and are glad to hear them experiment that night.

Rrose is the latest incarnation of Seth Horvitz, an interdisciplinary artist from California (currently residing in London) whose 25+ year musical history weaves in and out of academic circles and electronic music culture. Their work is informed by ongoing interests in microtonality, the limits of perception, and the idiosyncrasies of machines, which serve to create a distinctly detailed, sensual, and hallucinogenic form of techno that challenges the mind and body in equal measure.

This evening, they will be supported by Lou Drago, a Berlin-based artist, dreamer, and apocalypse survivor. Working across various mediums, they draw connections between the healing potential of sound, the necessity for collectivity during neoliberal times, queer-feminisms, meditation, and related theories.

Analogue Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of a new series of live music events, debuting on May 16th at the historic Zenner Saal in Treptower Park, Berlin.

The inaugural event will feature a special solo performance by the acclaimed composer and sound artist, Kali Malone. The night will also include performances from a special guest (tba) and an exclusive DJ set, adding to the allure of the series opener.

This series will transform the Saal into a unique listening environment reminiscent of an intimate studio session with the artist. The musicians will be positioned centrally, surrounded by the audience who may choose to experience the event seated, standing, or lying down, closely engaging with the performance in a shared acoustic space.

180 minutes with Function (Live)

As the reverberations from the last session’s gong continue to ripple around Alt Treptow, we are excited to announce to you none other than Function for the next round of 180 minutes live at Zenner.

David Sumner aka Function has been producing music since the mid-nineties, releasing relentless driving techno on seminal British label Downwards as one half of Portion Reform with Birmingham sound originator Regis, before teaming up with Regis and Silent Servant to deliver the boundary-breaking Sandwell District project.

This session of 180 minutes sees Function perform solo with artistic free-reign over the space. Expect the unexpected!

As we’re sure you know by now, the concept is beautiful in it’s simplicity: we warm up with an emerging artist, before being transported to the sublime sonic realms of some of electronic music’s finest creators for a full three-hour live set in the grandeur of our majestic Saal.

Supporting Function, we welcome Sarah Wreath. In Sarah’s vision, there is no prevailing preference over the role of producer or DJ - no hierarchical distinction between the club’s dancefloor, the acoustic hall or the healing sound bath. In the same perspective, both the creator and the careful selector of music & sound are entrusted with the power of touching the body-mind complexities of listeners and dancers with forceful acoustic messages.

Mike Erwin Klose (aka erwin.lighting) has been illuminating Berlin nightlife for the past twenty years as resident light technician of Berghain, and has more recently become a mainstay of the 180 minutes series at Zenner. With each iteration he brings the audience to further and more distant territories, away from the usual time and place settings of a midweek night.

MARINA HERLOP (Live)

Analogue Foundation Berlin presents the second event in a series of intimate live music performances, on September 5th at the historic Zenner Saal in Treptower Park, Berlin. Following a very successful opening event this past May, headlined by contemporary artist and composer Kali Malone, this second iteration is focused on a special solo live performance by Catalonian conservatory trained composer Marina Herlop. As a vocalist, pianist, and percussionist, she channels her environment in truly posthuman form; drawing inspiration from Carnatic music of Southern India, Herlop merges alien vocal acrobatics and stacatto percussion in an assemblage of chimeric compositions. Supporting Marina’s performance, Analogue Foundation invites British musicians Lucy Railton and Kit Downes for a very special collaboration with Hammond organ and cello, mixing modern composition with improvisation.

The night will open with a unique DJ set by Colombian interdisciplinary artist Natalia Escobar, whose practice encompasses moving images, sound, performance, and installations, her work having been exhibited at prestigious venues including the Museo Nacional in Bogotà, HKW and Berlinesche Galerie in Berlin, CCD in Mexico City, and La Casa Encendida in Madrid. This series will transform the Saal into a unique listening environment reminiscent of an intimate studio session with the artist. The musicians will be positioned throughout the Saal and surrounded by the audience who may choose to experience the event seated, standing, or lying down, closely engaging with the performance in a shared acoustic space. JAZZ KONTAKT (XJAZZ)

Renowned Berlin jazz festival XJAZZ! has a new project: Jazz Kontakt in collaboration with Music Export Ukraine and VITSCHE - an initiative aimed at sharing Ukraine's vibrant music movement with the world. In the context of Ukraine's transition from wartime to post-war reconstruction, this project takes on a unique identity, addressing not only the musical journey, but also the wider social norms and communities affected by the aftermath of the conflict. The project is of great importance to the local Ukrainian community and cultural organisations as it helps to redefine their shared vision in a post-war environment. By actively working with clearly defined communities, the Jazz Kontakt project promotes inclusion, celebrates the beauty of diversity and demonstrates resilience in times of war.

The JAZZ KONTAKT project is dedicated to proving the power of synergy, so on 20.7.2024 Ukrainian and Berlin-based bands will share a ZENNER summer stage to connect in a musical dialogue that speaks louder than words. We are more than happy to present the line-up: Rena&Senses Experience/UA and the Ori Jacobson Quartett/DE.

An open jam session will follow as the highlight of the event, so we invite musicians to participate! Please register here as a musician for the jam session.

This event is free but requires registration. Please register here!

SIP!

The SIP! afternoon on July 30 is hosted by Madmotormiquel. The DJ and Bachstelzen parent brings in Jaspar Gubbay all the way from Australia, and Kotoe, a long-term friend and DJ partner. Jaspar Gubbay is a Sydney-born musician, producer, and artist with a passion for dancing and all things funky and Franca. Kotoe's music is a rainbow of sounds as diverse as her cultural background. In her sets, she effortlessly blends a plethora of styles and tempi into a personal narrative as she travels through treasures of genres like dark and classic disco, percussive Latin or Afro rhythms, emotive trance, bass-laden breakbeat, all shades of house, and a touch of hip hop. Madmortormiquel is known for his extensive taste in classic punk rock and hip-hop that back in the 80's brought him into the world of powerful beats that the back-then-future-forming kids around him loved so much. Last but Franca who is appreciated around the globe for her energetic, creative and groove-driven DJ sets. Her unique ability to feel the audience, space and time, carefully capturing and then guiding the energy of the dance floor with focus and dedication, is one of her true trademarks.

On August 13, it is Zenner's second turn to curate another outstanding SIP! Afternoon. This time we invite Doron Eisenberg, Berlin-based DJ and producer with a varied, rhythmic, and moving musical repertoire, Loulou Ferrari, a whirlwind from the French Alps who is constantly evolving and is striving to deliver a fine selection of tunes from slow jams, Balearic grooves to more energetic beats and Vio PRG – a DJ, radio host of the show "Flight Mode" on Refuge Worldwide, that always is a passionate crate dig, always on the lookout for weird and wonderful balearic, disco and afrobeat.
Our special guest will be Barbie Williams. Barbie's work displays her vocal prowess, blended with minimal elements:percussive arrangements, strummings from nylon guitars, trumpets, frenchhorns, explorative vocal samples, electronic sounds and Latin American flavors.

For this special afternoon, we invited Teheran-born lover of life, Hesam Ayat, to our wine garden. Hesam effortlessly builds bridges between the art world and will uplift you with his kindness. Kyiv-born and Prague-based Nastik is presenting her evocative style, exploring connections between different genres and moods, effortlessly taming the wild terrain of electronic music. On top, Unjack is spreading the good vibes along the Spree, and producer Hubble takes us on one of his hypnotic journeys. But this is not where all the excitement ends – get ready for Yeah True, a collaboration of Owen Ross and Oscar Bernal.
